Hekla Barrel 250 | 6-Person Thermowood Outdoor Barrel Sauna
The Hekla Barrel 250 is a full-size 6-person outdoor barrel sauna designed for shared sessions, family use, and the kind of weekly recovery routine that actually gets stuck to. The barrel geometry is not just aesthetic — the curved walls promote even convective circulation, so heat distributes consistently across the cabin rather than stratifying into hot pockets.
It is the natural choice for households that want sauna to be a social ritual: post-training recovery with a partner, weekend sessions with friends, or a slow Sunday wind-down before the working week.
Build quality is where this model earns its place. The 40mm Thermowood frame is thermally modified Nordic spruce — heat-treated to drive out resin and reduce moisture absorption, which improves dimensional stability outdoors and slows the warping and cracking that tends to ruin cheaper barrel saunas in a UK climate. The treatment is purely thermal: no chemicals, no preservatives, just structural change to the wood itself.
Build, durability and weather resistance
The 40mm Thermowood shell carries enough thermal mass to hold cabin temperature efficiently once it is up to working heat, while the shingled roof provides genuine all-weather protection. Thermo-aspen duckboard flooring inside resists warping at high humidity, and the 8mm tempered glass door is rated for safety at sauna-relevant thermal stresses. Total assembled weight is approximately 840kg — a useful indicator of build seriousness rather than a downside.
Interior layout, seating and atmosphere
Inside, two aspen benches give 6 people room to sit or recline. The terrace area at the front carries two 50cm-wide benches that act as a cool-down zone between rounds — the kind of detail that makes a contrast-style session realistic without leaving the structure. A half panoramic window admits daylight while keeping the cocooned feel intact, and twin LED lights with a switch let you set the atmosphere for evening use.
Use case and weekly ritual
For households intending to run multiple sessions per week, the 250 size pays off: the larger cabin tolerates group sessions without the air feeling exhausted, and the terrace bench arrangement makes the contrast pattern (heat round, cool down, repeat) practical without breaking the sauna seal repeatedly. This is the model to choose if you want sauna to function as the central piece of a recovery routine, not an occasional indulgence.
Delivery & site preparation
- Standard delivery: Free standard delivery is included.
- Delivery type: Sauna deliveries are usually specialist freight or booked delivery because of panel size and weight.
- Site preparation: Outdoor saunas need a suitable, level base ready before delivery.
- Heater & electrical: A qualified electrician must connect the heater before first use. Heater is supplied separately or per build configuration; confirm exact heater specification at checkout. Most 6kW–9kW sauna heaters require a dedicated 32A single-phase or 16A 3-phase supply.
