Collection: Plug & Play Hot Tubs (13A)
13A Plug & Play Hot Tubs
The easiest way to own a hot tub. 13A Plug & Play models run from a standard UK socket — no electrician, no rewiring — so you can fill, plug in and soak. Our plug-in range runs from £3,995 and goes up to seven seats; plug & play isn't only for small tubs.
What "13A" actually means
A 13A hot tub draws its power from a standard UK 3-pin socket. The 13-amp circuit limits the tub's total draw to about 3 kW, so a 1–2 kW heater and the pumps share the supply — the tub prioritises heating when the jets are off, and eases off heating when the jets run hard. For most owners who keep the tub warm and covered between uses, that's a non-issue; it just means a plug-in tub recovers temperature more slowly after a session than a 32A model.
Why customers choose plug & play
The headline win is install cost and simplicity. A 32A hardwired tub needs an electrician to fit a dedicated circuit, RCD protection and an outdoor isolator — typically several hundred pounds, plus the cable run to the garden. A 13A plug-and-play tub skips all of that: plug it into a weatherproof outdoor socket and it's running. For first-time buyers, smaller gardens, or steady (rather than daily-from-cold) use, that's usually the right call.
Honest trade-offs vs 32A
13A tubs heat more slowly from cold — around 8–14 hours to reach temperature versus 4–6 hours for a 32A tub — and the water can cool slightly during long, hard jet sessions before recovering. Most plug-in models seat up to 5–7 people; the largest jet-heavy and spa-pool models use 32A (or 40A) to keep performance consistent. If you'll use it daily through a UK winter or want full heat-and-jets-together performance, 32A hardwired hot tubs are the better match. The full decision is in our 13A vs 32A Hot Tubs guide.
Who 13A is best for
- First-time hot tub owners
- Smaller gardens and patios
- Steady, relaxation-led use (evenings and weekends)
- Anyone who wants to avoid electrician costs and rewiring
Plug & play hot tub FAQs
Do plug & play hot tubs need an electrician?
Not to install the tub — they plug into a standard 13A socket. You only need an electrician if you don't already have a suitable outdoor-rated, RCD-protected socket nearby, in which case adding one is far simpler and cheaper than wiring a 32A circuit.
Is 13 amp enough for a hot tub?
For most users, yes. A 13A supply (about 3kW) comfortably runs a plug & play tub kept warm and covered between uses. The trade-off is slower heat-up and that the water can cool slightly during heavy jet use.
How long does a 13A hot tub take to heat up?
Around 8–14 hours from cold to reach temperature, versus 4–6 hours for a 32A tub. Once warm, a well-insulated plug-in tub holds heat well between uses.
What's the biggest plug & play hot tub?
Our largest plug-in model is the 7-seat Equinox 7. Some larger social tubs are convertible too — plug & play now, with the option to wire to 32A later.
