A barrel sauna you can actually sit outside. The Saaren 280 Panorama gives up a slice of its length to a built-in covered terrace — its own benches, its own floor, under the same curved roof — so the cooling-off half of a sauna session happens under shelter instead of standing on wet grass.

Behind it, a full glass front wall with a tempered bronze glass door. Sitting inside you look straight out at the garden; from outside at dusk, the lit interior is the reason people stop and look. This is the barrel that does not feel like a wooden tube.

It is also the widest barrel in the range at 2.31 m, which is what makes the two-level bench layout work. A standard 2.05 m barrel forces a compromise between bench depth and headroom. This one does not.

Built in Estonia, from thermowood

Every part of the shell is thermowood — timber kiln-treated at 180–220°C in a low-oxygen chamber. It is not a coating; the treatment changes the wood itself, closing the cells so it takes on far less moisture. That is what stops outdoor timber cupping, twisting and splitting through a British winter, and it happens without chemical preservatives.

42 mm staves, 28 mm back wall, held by stainless steel barrel bands. Thick walls are why a 10.6 m³ barrel heats quickly and holds temperature once it is there — which matters more here than usual, because a full glass front loses heat faster than solid timber.

Run it on gas — no electrician, no cable across the garden

This is the option almost nobody else offers, and for a lot of gardens it is the one that makes a sauna possible at all.

A FinSteam gas heater runs on a standard propane bottle — the same sort you would use for a patio heater or a barbecue. No armoured cable, no trench across the lawn, no electrician quote you had not budgeted for. If your garden has no power at the far end, this is how you still get a sauna there.

Or go wood-fired — the traditional barrel

There is a reason barrel saunas have chimneys. A wood stove gives you the crackle, the smell and the slow build that no electric element reproduces, and it needs no power at all.

Our Harvia M series wood-burning set comes complete with the chimney and stones included — nothing else to source. Our fitters install it and check the flue on the day.

The Saaren 280 Panorama takes a wall-mounted heater on the back wall, which keeps both bench runs clear. Our Harvia Wall is black steel with a full 20 kg stone capacity for softer, steadier löyly, integrated controls and a 2-year warranty.

Not sure which? Ask us. A full glass wall loses more heat than solid timber, so we would usually steer you to the 8 kW here — and if the garden is exposed or you want winter use, tell us and we will size it properly.

All electric heaters must be installed and connected by a qualified electrician. We confirm the exact supply requirement with you before installation.

Prefer a different heater — HUUM, a WiFi-controlled model, or a different wood stove? Choose cabin only and talk to us; we can supply and fit most makes.

2-year warranty

The Saaren 280 Panorama carries a 2-year warranty on the barrel structure, and the heaters carry their own manufacturer warranty.

Thermowood is stable and rot-resistant by nature, but like any outdoor timber it lasts longest if you treat the exterior and keep it treated. We will tell you exactly what to use and when. Look after it and this is a sauna that will outlast the warranty by a wide margin.

Lead time — please ask before you order

Lead time depends on stock and specification, and it moves. Depending on what is already built and how the factories are running, it can be anywhere from a couple of weeks to around four months.

Ask us and we will give you the real date for your build before you commit — we would rather tell you the honest timescale up front than quote a comfortable number and disappoint you later.

Getting it into your garden

• Base: level and well-drained — a slab, paving or compacted gravel all work. Allow 280 × 231 cm plus room to walk around it.
• Access: delivered flat-packed on one pallet, so the parts go through a standard side gate. No crane, no dismantling fences.
• Glass: the front wall is the heaviest single component. Two people minimum for that panel, or leave the whole build to our installation team.
• Assembly: a barrel goes together faster than you would think — typically a day for two people.
• Orientation: point the glass at the view. It is the one decision you cannot easily change afterwards.
