Collection: Nordic Saunas
Nordic Saunas — Built in Estonia
Every sauna in this collection is made in Estonia, on the eastern shore of the Baltic, by one of the largest sauna producers in the region. Not designed in Britain and assembled abroad — designed, cut and built where saunas have been part of ordinary life for centuries.
That matters more than it sounds. Nordic sauna building is a timber tradition first and a wellness product second, and it shows in the things that are easy to skimp on: wall thickness, bench timber, how the roof is detailed, whether the door seals properly in February.
What makes a Nordic sauna different
- Thickness over cladding. 42 mm walls as standard, 70 mm solid logs on the cabins, up to 100 mm of insulation on the assembled houses. Thin-panel saunas heat quickly and lose it just as fast.
- Thermowood. Timber kiln-treated at 180–220°C in a low-oxygen chamber, which closes the cells so it takes on far less moisture. It is why a Baltic-built sauna survives a British winter without cupping or splitting — and it is done with heat, not chemicals.
- Aspen and alder benches. Low-resin, low-conductivity timbers that stay cool enough to sit on at 90°C. Not the same as pine with a stain on it.
- Real löyly. Proper stone capacity, so water on the stones gives a soft wave of steam rather than a hiss and a scald.
The range
- Barrel saunas — the traditional Nordic shape, and still the fastest to heat.
- Cube saunas — the modern Scandinavian form, more headroom and easier to place.
- Glass saunas — blackened timber and full-height glazing, the contemporary Baltic look.
- Sauna cabins and houses — solid log construction and fully assembled buildings.
Nordic sauna FAQs
What is a Nordic sauna?
A traditional dry-heat sauna in the Finnish, Swedish, Estonian and Baltic tradition — high heat, low humidity, and water thrown on hot stones to raise a brief wave of steam. It is distinct from a steam room, and from an infrared cabin, which heats the body directly rather than the air.
Is a Scandinavian sauna the same as a Finnish one?
In practice, yes. Finnish, Swedish, Norwegian and Estonian saunas share the same essentials: a well-insulated timber room, a stove with a substantial bed of stones, tiered benches and controllable ventilation. Regional differences are mostly matters of ritual rather than construction.
Why Estonian rather than Finnish-built?
Same Baltic timber, same building tradition, considerably better value. Estonia has one of the largest concentrations of sauna manufacturing in Europe, and the factories we work with supply across the Nordic region.
What temperature should a Nordic sauna run at?
Typically 70–90°C with low humidity, rising briefly when water goes on the stones. Higher than a steam room, and dry enough that the heat is comfortable rather than smothering.
