Steam & Oak is the first UK retail partner for FinSteam.
The flagship — two connectable tents, premium heater, full safety pack, complete in one buy
NOIR XXL Signature is the flagship of the FinSteam range — and the only NOIR package built around two Fritid X tents. Two tents pitch and connect at their entrances: sauna in one, dedicated second space in the other (changing room, cold-plunge antechamber, sleep tent, equipment storage — whatever you need). It's the FinSteam-engineered answer to "I want a proper outdoor sauna setup, not just a hot tent." Backed by a single Aurora 81 R14S heater with full safety pack (Halo + Njord standard), a folding Western Red Cedar bench, 40 kg of stones, and the UK gas kit. One consignment, ready to use the day stock arrives.
Why a gas sauna at all (and why it beats wood-fired or electric)
The UK portable-sauna market is split between two compromises. Wood-fired tents bring a chimney to fit through the roof, smoke and ash to clean up, a 30-45 minute warm-up, fire-tending mid-session, and the standing fire risk of a live flame in fabric. Cheap electric steam pods are dry, lightweight, frequently unrated for safety, and tied to a wall socket. The FinSteam NOIR is the third path: gas-powered, no electricity, no chimney, no live fire — engineered as a sauna from the start.
| NOIR (gas) | Wood-fired | Electric | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Heat-up time | ~15 minutes, turn a dial | 30-45 minutes, tend a fire | 30-60 minutes |

| Electrician / wiring | None | None | Usually required (£1-2k) |

| Safety | EU-certified, auto oxygen shut-off, physical safety pack | Open flame | Electrical |
A clever piece of engineering — the certified safety case
Running gas safely inside a small enclosed space is genuinely hard. FinSteam solved it with patented burner technology delivering clean, stable combustion, wrapped in two layers of automatic safety. The Oxygen Depletion Sensor (ODS) continuously monitors oxygen and automatically shuts off the gas at approximately 18% — well above any level dangerous to occupants. Flame monitoring cuts the gas instantly if the flame is lost. The XXL configuration adds the physical safety pack — Halo rail to prevent contact with the hot heater top, Njord shield to reduce clearance to combustible timber. FinSteam's stated claim: the only CE-marked, electricity-free sauna gas heater on the European market. AENOR-tested under EU Gas Appliance Regulation 2016/426. Zero warranty returns on the heater across the last 12 months.
What's in the XXL Signature package — every piece explained
1. Two × FinSteam Fritid X premium black sauna tents — the value driver
This is the single biggest reason to choose XXL over XL. Two Fritid X tents, designed to connect at their entrances to give you a sauna in one tent and a dedicated second space in the other. Buying two Fritid X tents separately would cost ~£1,790 at retail; the XXL package gets you both as part of a complete setup.
- Both tents identical: 180 × 180 cm floor, 180/207 cm height, 8 m³ interior, 3-layer Oxford 420D / 150 g/m² fibre / Oxford 210D fabric, 2000 mm waterproof rating, sub-minute setup with integrated pop-up frame.
- Both engineered for the FinSteam heater — vent openings sized and positioned for the airflow, fabric handled for combustion warmth, certified together under EU Regulation 2016/426.
- Both have two entrances each. Two of the four entrances connect at the join point between the tents; the other two stay as standard sauna doors.
- The connection at the entrances is built-in — designed to butt directly to the matching entrance on the second tent, giving you a single shared opening between two interiors. Fast to assemble, no separate tunnel piece.
One heated sauna, one companion space. The package includes one Aurora 81 R14S heater, one gas kit and one 40 kg stone load — so the second tent is not a second heated sauna. It's your changing room, cool-down space or overnight tent, connected directly to the sauna tent.
What the second tent unlocks (the practical setups)
Two Fritid X tents joined at the entrances give you four practical setups in one purchase:
- Sauna + changing room — get changed in the warm, year-round use becomes effortless. The single biggest comfort upgrade for UK climate use.
- Sauna + cold-plunge antechamber — your Steam & Oak cold plunge tub lives in the second tent, sheltered from wind and rain. Contrast therapy done properly, weather-independent.
- Sauna + sleep tent — for off-grid trips, wild swimming weekends, glamping rotation, festival pop-ups.
- Sauna + commercial waiting area — for events / pop-ups / holiday lets running paid sessions, the second tent is where customers change and wait.
2. FinSteam Aurora 81 R14S gas sauna heater + safety pack
The Aurora 81 is FinSteam's newer premium 8.1 kW heater. The R14S configuration includes the FinSteam safety pack as standard:
- Aurora 81 heater chassis — 8.1 kW, 0.59 kg/h gas consumption, 15-20 min heat-up, 61 × 51 × 30 cm, ~9.8 kg.
- Orbis 14 stone cage fitted — 20-25 kg+ capacity.
- Halo safety rail (standard). Wood-clad rail around the heater top, prevents accidental contact with the hot stone cage. Standalone retail ~£249.
- Njord heat shield (standard). Non-combustible steel shield, reduces clearance to combustible timber (200 mm → 50 mm). Standalone retail ~£189.
- UK propane spec: I3P 37 mbar (included regulator + hose pre-configured).
- Certification: EU Type-Examination Certificate, AENOR-tested under Gas Appliance Regulation 2016/426. ODS + flame monitoring.
3. Folding Western Red Cedar sauna bench
A folding Western Red Cedar bench, sized for the Fritid X sauna tent. Cedar is the classic sauna-bench timber: naturally moisture-resistant, low heat conductivity so it stays comfortable against skin rather than scalding, and it carries that unmistakable warm cedar aroma when the room comes up to temperature. Drops into the tent without adjustment and folds flat for storage and transport.
4. 40 kg pre-washed FinSteam sauna stones
Sized for the Orbis 14 cage, 40 kg of proper thermal density for genuine löyly response. Pre-washed, burn off on first use, lasts most domestic users 3-5 years.
5. UK propane regulator + 1.2 m CE-marked gas hose
The bit FinSteam don't ship by design. UK kit included: I3P 37 mbar regulator, 27 mm clip-on connector for Calor 13 kg bottles, CE-marked gas hose at Ø ≥ 9 mm and 1.2 m length. For commercial / hire / events with larger propane bottles (POL screw, 19-47 kg), get in touch before ordering.
The XXL value case
The XXL Signature is the flagship — and it's also the package where the bundle economics work hardest in your favour. Sum-of-components retail vs the XXL price:
- 2× Fritid X tents @ £895 each = £1,790
- Aurora 81 R14S = £2,295
- Folding cedar bench = £185
- 40 kg stones + UK regulator/hose kit = £188
- Bought separately: £4,458
- NOIR XXL Signature: £3,995
Buying the package saves you £463 against sourcing the same components individually — and you get the convenience of one decision, one delivery, and a matched FinSteam-engineered configuration rather than five suppliers and a hope that it all fits together.
Made in Finland. Designed as a system. Backed by a track record.
Every component is FinSteam-engineered and matched. The Aurora 81 is manufactured in Finland by FinSteam Ab Oy with all components sourced from Europe. Spare parts ship direct from the factory. UK stock + UK service + UK phone support through Steam & Oak as the official first UK retail partner. Zero warranty returns on the heater across the last 12 months.
Portable by default. Gas Safe registered if you fix it down.
The heater ships as a portable LPG appliance — connected outside to a propane bottle via the included 37 mbar regulator and CE-marked hose, like a patio heater. You do not need a Gas Safe registered engineer for portable use. If you choose to permanently fix the heater into a structure, UK regulations require the gas connection to be made by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
Who it's for
- Buyers who want the full FinSteam experience in a single decision and single delivery — the convenience tier.
- Holiday-let / Airbnb operators where a sauna suite is the wellness amenity that books out the calendar (vs a bare sauna).
- Mobile sauna hire / events businesses (see also our mobile sauna hire guide) — XXL is the configuration that justifies a premium per-session hire price because customers see a proper setup, not just a tent.
- Off-grid / cabin / wilderness use where you want sauna + somewhere to change without trekking through cold.
- Anyone running serious contrast therapy who wants a paired sauna + cold-plunge setup that doesn't depend on the weather.
- Family / household use where you want the changing-room comfort upgrade that turns the sauna from "occasional treat" into "weekly habit".
Not included
- Propane bottle — buy a UK 13 kg Calor propane locally.
- Non-combustible base for the heater (≥30 mm thick, ≥300 × 300 mm).
- Cold plunge tub — pairs with our Steam & Oak cold plunge range for full contrast-therapy use of the second tent.
FAQs
What's the difference between using two connected Fritid X tents and a much bigger single tent like the FinSteam Dome?
Different products for different use-cases. The Dome is a 4×4 m octagonal group sauna built for 10-14 people in one space — requires two heaters running together, designed for events / rentals / commercial group use. The XXL configuration is two smaller 3-4 person tents joined at the entrances — one heated sauna, one companion space. Pick XXL for sauna-suite use (couples / families / boutique pop-ups). Pick the Dome for group sauna (commercial groups, festivals).
Is the second tent heated too?
No. The package includes one Aurora 81 R14S heater, one gas kit and one 40 kg stone load, all for the sauna tent. The second tent connects at the entrance and works as a changing room, cool-down space, cold-plunge shelter or sleep tent.
Do I have to use the second tent — can I just pitch one and have a single FinSteam sauna?
Yes. Both tents are standalone-capable Fritid X. If you only want one pitched at a time, the second tent is essentially a spare / backup / replacement, which is worth having anyway given the wear and tear of mobile / outdoor use. Most XXL owners do pitch both regularly though — the second-tent comfort upgrade is the reason they bought the package.
How do the two tents connect — does it leave a draft / cold gap?
No. The two entrances are designed to butt directly together, creating a single shared opening between the two interiors. Both tents seal at the connection. Heat retention in the sauna tent is identical to a standalone Fritid X.
Do I need a Gas Safe engineer?
Not for portable use. Yes for any fixed install.
How big a propane bottle do I need for a session?
A standard UK 13 kg Calor propane runs the heater at full output for around 20 hours — i.e., 4-5 typical hour-long sauna sessions per bottle, comfortably. Throttled at temperature it's longer. Most XXL owners stock 2 bottles and rotate.
Can I run a cold plunge inside the second tent?
Yes — it's one of the most common uses. The second tent shelters the cold plunge from wind and rain (so the water doesn't drop below your target temperature unpredictably), and means you can run a proper contrast-therapy session year-round. We can pair the XXL with a Steam & Oak cold plunge tub — get in touch before ordering and we'll spec the right tub for the tent footprint.
Is XXL appropriate for mobile sauna hire / events?
Yes — it's the configuration most UK mobile sauna operators choose for a flagship single-unit setup. The second tent doubles as customer changing area, which is the difference between a sauna-as-a-novelty offer and a sauna-as-a-real-amenity offer at events.

How the gas heat works — ready in about 15 minutes
Electric and wood heaters warm the room indirectly: they heat a big mass of stones first, which slowly warms the air — 30 to 45 minutes of waiting or fire-tending. A FinSteam gas heater is flueless and heats directly: it burns gas cleanly and puts the hot air and water vapour straight into the cabin, while the stones still heat for löyly. Nothing is stored first, nothing is lost up a chimney — so it's ready in about 15 minutes, on a dial.

The safety engineering
Gas in an enclosed space deserves serious engineering. Every FinSteam heater has an Oxygen Depletion Sensor (ODS) that shuts the gas off automatically if oxygen drops too low, flame supervision that cuts the gas the instant the flame is lost, and push-button piezo ignition. This package includes one Aurora 81 R14S heater, which adds an integrated 60-minute safety timer and the full safety pack — Halo rail and Njord heat shield — fitted as standard. That single heater serves the sauna tent; the second tent is not a second heated sauna, it's the connected changing / cool-down / overnight space. The cylinders always stay outside. EU type-examination certified under the Gas Appliance Regulation (2016/426).
Why gas wins in busy and commercial saunas
The hardest thing for any public or mobile sauna is the door: every time it opens, hot air escapes and cold pours in. An electric or wood heater then sags while it slowly rebuilds heat from the stones. A flueless gas heater produces heat continuously and replaces the lost hot air the moment it escapes — so it holds temperature through constant use. The 12-month warranty applies to commercial use.
