Hot Tub Base & Placement Guide
Hot Tub Base & Placement Guide
Your base and placement matter more than most people realise. A hot tub must sit on a solid, flat, level surface that can support substantial weight when filled. This guide helps you choose a safe base and plan a setup you’ll actually enjoy using.
What base do I need?
- Concrete slab (best): stable, level, long-lasting.
- Paving / patio slabs: only if the sub-base is properly prepared and level.
- Decking: must be engineered for load (not a standard timber deck).
Why “level” matters
- Protects the shell and frame over time
- Helps waterline and filtration/skimmer function
- Improves cover fit and insulation seal
Placement tips (UK gardens)
- Put it close enough to the house that you’ll use it in winter.
- Avoid overhanging trees (less debris, easier water care).
- Plan for drainage and avoid low spots where water pools.
- Leave service access space to at least one side if possible.
Access and the route into the garden
Measure the narrowest point (usually the gate), and check for tight turns, steps, slopes or gravel. If access is tight, a slightly smaller shell can make delivery dramatically easier.
